Jaipur: Rajasthan High Court has asked the director general of police to appear personally on November 30 over tardy investigation by the police in a cheating case involving Rs 18 crore in Kota in a land deal.
The single bench of Justice Banwarilal Sharma ordered the DG to be personally present in the case as it appeared that there was an attempt to delay the investigation with the frequent transfer of the investigating officers.
According to the counsel for the petitioner Suresh Sahani, the petitioner Surendra Pal Singh Sahani entered into an agreement with Jaspal Kaur and Major Singh for the purchase of land at various places in Kota district for about Rs 18 crore. But the accused later denied of any transaction in this regard.
The petitioner filed a police complaint at Kunadi police station, however, the police have not investigated the matter. The petitioner had also accused Kota IG of interfering with the investigation. The petitioner then approached the high court for shifting the case from Kunadi police station and the investigation being given to an independent agency like the CBI or state special operations group (SOG).
The court had summoned the records of the case on October 7, but the investigating officer was not present on the next hearing on October 12, beacuse of which the public prosecutor asked for more time.
The investigating officer Rajendra Ojha, who was present on October 14, informed the court that he received intimation that the case would be supervised by the IG Kota and assured the court that he would expedite the investigation. He was given time till October 31.
The court said the matter pertaining to cheating of Rs 18 crore and the police had accepted that the case is serious. After the FIR on July 5 this year, there seems to be no progress in the investigation. So the court asked the DG of police to be present in the court on November 30 so that the police officials responsible for the delay in the investigation may be taken to task.
